East Asia and Pacific

The East Asia and Pacific region had 285 transactions between 2000 and 2006, valued at $96 billion, or 34 percent of total developing country value. China alone accounted for almost 91 percent of the region’s value, due in large part to minority initial public offerings of state-owned banks and enterprises—including two mega deals involving the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China for US$22 billion and the Bank of China for US$13.7 billion in 2006. Significant contributors also included Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. Vietnam had a large number of transactions, the majority of them under $10 million.
