Solid Waste

Solid waste services create a serious challenge for local governments seeking to protect the environment and the health of their citizens. Private sector participation can radically improve efficiency and reduce costs, but the design of competitive arrangements and the degree of transparency in contract award procedures will determine the chances of success.

The toolkit contains overall guidance for local decision makers and a wealth of practical tools for introducing private participation in solid waste services.
