John Nellis argues that it is. Not only do privately owned firms usually outperform public enterprises, but privatization is the only way to "inoculate" a company against political interference. While governments may want public enterprises to be profitable and productive, they often are unwilling to allow commercial aims to take precedence over noncommercial aims.
